Lychnis coronaria

Lychnis coronaria is a short lived perennial with beautiful silvery grey foliage and magenta flowers... some would say shocking pink. It's really easy to grow from seed and will help to give your garden that country garden look. If you can stand the colour clash grow these plants next to bright orange Heleniums for a stunning summer display.

Do you love to see bright colours in the garden?

Red Clover

A patch of vibrant red flowers covered with bees.
Hardy and useful in vegetable gardens as a green manure.
This is Red Clover. Wow. Manure never looked so good!
Do you use green manure in your garden?

Architectural Dill

I'm growing the annual herb Antheum graveolens this summer. Commonly known as Dill, it's finely feathered foliage is a useful for cooking with fish in particular. I'm also using it as a foliage plant to compliment some of the beautiful blue Larkspur and white Cosmos flowers I'm growing. It's good to have half foliage and half flowers in a vase!

Dill is an tall and sturdy architectural plant growing three to four feet tall. It has huge open flower heads in shades of lime green and acid yellow. When you pick a stem you can strip most of the leaves off to use for cooking and just use the flower head to add lightness and contrast to your vase of cut flowers. Lovely!

High Summer

Colours in the garden are changing now that summer is at it's peak. I love to include dramatic plants with intense colours in shades of orange and red which sing out when the sun is high in the sky.
I grow a range of perennials and annuals specifically for this time of year. Eye wateringly bright colours are called for in July and August I think. Not tasteful some would say but I think they are lovely none the less.
Today has been warm with sunshine all day here in NW England and the first glorious annual Rudbeckias are blooming. Woo Hoo!
